Country Cupboard was founded in Red Deer and has been operating at the same location since 1985. The uniqueness of the historical building adds to the feel of an old country store. The shop uses two floors of one half of a building that was constructed in 1947 by Mr. Wing Wong. Originally, The War Surplus Store and Mac Arthur’s Cycle & Sporting Goods shared the two spaces on the main floor. The upstairs included four apartments. Since then, some of the businesses that have operated at this location are: Bert’s Barber Shop, Custom Upholstery & Drapery, Portraits By Kelly, Bill's Barber Shop, Kanata Studio Photography, Adanac Television, Cash and Carry Paints & Wallpaper, George's Barber Shop, Monarch Decorating, Floral Boutique and Bridal Center, Cloverdale Paint and Wallpaper, Love Knot, Fradon’s Tonsorial Parlor, Lovewood Antiques, Alberta Lobster Ranches, Log Cabin Crafts, Crabby’s Fish Market and Seafood Restaurant, Alex Barber Shop, Wildrose Barber Shop, Frank's Place Barber Shop, Rollies Barber Shop, Cotton Threads Quilt Shop and presently Gaetz Avenue Barber Shop.
The current owners, Don and Cathy Edwards, took over the store in 2009. In 2012, an expansion was added on the main floor when the Quilt Shop moved locations. A year-round Christmas room was able to be added with this expansion. Located in the beautiful downtown of Red Deer, Country Cupboard showcases over 3000 square feet full of unique items. Don't be fooled by how small it looks on the outside! Be prepared to spend some time enjoying the homey feel while browsing the wide variety of items we have. Our goal is to make your shopping experience relaxing as well as presenting good products with old fashioned service. We strive to bring quality products that are not available at most stores. We would like to invite everyone to stop in, say hello, and see the variety of gift items, home decor and many unique products that we offer.
